2 brothers arrested, charged with Abington slay
Two brothers have been arrested on charges connected to a brutal beating death of an Abington man, who was found dead in his backyard late last month.
Police arrested Suzito Lopes, 43, of Quincy, at his home Monday evening. His brother, Antonio Lopes, 37, of Taunton, turned himself in Tuesday morning at the Abington Police Department, according to the Plymouth District Attorney’s office.
Local police performed a welfare check at the residence of Anthony Leverone, 43, the evening of Dec. 27, 2024, after a caller requested it. They found Leverone unresponsive in the backyard of the home on the 500-block of Plymouth Street.
The initial investigation indicated that Leverone “died of blunt force trauma, and high impact injuries,” the DA’s office wrote in a statement at the time. Medical personnel of the Abington Fire Department pronounced him dead at the scene.
The initial DA statement indicated that they suspected two men known to the victim. Neither statement elaborated on that theory.
