Hyundai Ioniq 5 N DK Edition is A Drifter’s Dream Built with the Drift King Himself

Hyundai continues to rewrite the script for electric performance cars, and its latest creation—the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N DK Edition—is proof that EVs can pack serious thrills. Developed in collaboration with none other than Keiichi Tsuchiya, the Drift King (DK) himself, this special edition is purpose-built for drifting enthusiasts who crave sideways action. With its advanced upgrades and Tsuchiya’s legendary input, the DK Edition transforms the Ioniq 5 N into a drifter’s dream.

Keiichi Tsuchiya, a revered figure in motorsports, is credited with popularizing drifting as a legitimate sport. His influence extends far beyond Japan, making him a global icon in automotive culture. The DK Edition not only honors Tsuchiya’s legacy but also incorporates his expertise to fine-tune the car for peak performance on the drift track.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N DK Edition comes equipped with a series of performance-focused upgrades. It boasts six-piston monoblock calipers fitted with brake pads offering 54 percent more surface area for improved stopping power. To enhance its handling dynamics, Hyundai worked with H&R to develop custom lowering springs, lowering the center of gravity for better control during high-speed drifts. Unique to the DK Edition are 21-inch wheels featuring a sawtooth barrel structure, engineered to provide maximum grip and stability while spinning on the pavement—a crucial detail for maintaining those extended sideways slides.

Visually, the DK Edition gets a dose of aggressive flair, with carbon-fiber components taking center stage. A new front splitter, side skirts, and rear wing add not just style but functional aerodynamics, creating additional downforce for increased grip and high-speed stability. The green accents, inspired by Tsuchiya’s iconic racing suit, give the car a signature touch, ensuring it stands out both on and off the track.

“The Ioniq 5 N DK Edition was directly evaluated and developed by Keiichi Tsuchiya, a living legend in motorsports,” said Park Jun-woo, head of Hyundai’s N division. “Through the parts package that combines his driving know-how and Hyundai Motor Company’s technological prowess, we will be able to provide a special experience to customers who enjoy driving and love high-performance cars.”

Tsuchiya himself was hands-on in the development process and had glowing praise for the final product. “I have experienced the Ioniq 5 N many times and have been surprised and delighted every time,” Tsuchiya remarked. “The DK Edition, completed with my sensibility and Hyundai N’s technological prowess, delivers a whole new level of driving enjoyment.”

As for availability, Hyundai has announced that the Ioniq 5 N DK Edition will launch in Korea and Japan in the first half of 2025. Pricing and production numbers remain under wraps, but like most niche performance cars from Asia, this special edition is unlikely to reach the U.S. market.

Hyundai has yet again proven that electric vehicles can be exciting, innovative, and deeply engaging for enthusiasts. With the Ioniq 5 N DK Edition, the brand not only pays homage to a drifting legend but also sets a new standard for what electric performance cars can achieve on and off the track. If you’re a fan of electrified performance with a sideways twist, the Ioniq 5 N DK Edition is one car worth dreaming about—if only it were easier to get your hands on.
