Two Gophers defensive players enter the NCAA transfer portal

Gophers defensive tackle Martin Owusu and safety Coleman Bryson have entered the NCAA transfer portal, a source confirmed to the Pioneer Press on Tuesday.

Bryson, a redshirt sophomore from Waynesville, N.C., was in the defensive back rotation at the U in 2024, totaling 20 tackles in all 13 games. But there is more of a logjam at safety with Koi Perich, Kerry Brown and Aidan Gousby in bigger roles going into 2025.

In 2022, Bryson was the MVP of the Pinstripe Bowl after returning an interception 70 yards for a touchdown in the win over Syracuse at Yankee Stadium. He played 31 total games at the U over three season.

Owusu, a redshirt freshman from Prior Lake, had only one tackle in one game this season; he redshirted without an appearance in 2023. The three-star recruit played in the Minnesota High School Football All-Star Game.

Minnesota has now had 12 players leave the U via the portal since October, but only Bryson and offensive tackle Phillip Daniels saw significant playing time last fall.
