St. Paul Public Schools begins open house tours before priority enrollment deadline
St. Paul Public Schools will begin hosting open houses at each of its schools this week ahead of the district’s Feb. 14 priority enrollment deadline.
Open houses this week start at 9 a.m. Thursday at Highwood Hills Elementary School at 2188 Londin Ln. E. in St. Paul and continue at different locations through Feb. 13. At open houses, families can meet the school principal, teachers, other staff and current students and ask about topics like curriculum, extracurricular activities and services, according to district spokesperson Erica Wacker.
Open houses also include a tour of the building and classroom visits. All SPPS schools will host at least one open house before Feb. 14.
Families can visit apply.spps.org to enter their home address and grade level in the school finder to find the attendance area they live in, what their community school is, what magnet schools are available and which schools provide bus transportation from their address.
Enrollment criteria, which differs by grade level, can be found at apply.spps.org/school_placement_criteria.
Families can attend as many open houses as they want and applications can be submitted at any time, but applying by the Feb. 14 priority enrollment deadline is encouraged by the district. Applicants can list a first and second choice for a school on their applications and will be notified in March of acceptance or a waitlist status. Online applications can be found at apply.spps.org/onlineapplication.
Many schools also offer tours and shadowing opportunities for more in-depth and personalized experiences, according to Wacker. Tours can be requested on school websites or by calling the school, and families can attend as many tours as they want.
