Celtics downgrade two players due to illness ahead of Nuggets matchup

The Celtics added two players to what had been an empty injury report Tuesday afternoon.

Boston downgraded starting guard Derrick White and reserve forward Jordan Walsh to questionable for Tuesday night’s road game against the Denver Nuggets. Both are listed with non-COVID illnesses.

Tipoff in Denver is set for 10 p.m. ET.

White leads all Boston starters in games played this season, appearing in all but one for the 26-10 Celtics. Walsh has made 26 appearances off the bench. The second-year pro saw a recent uptick in playing time before sitting out Sunday’s loss to Oklahoma City as a healthy DNP.

The Celtics also will be without deep bench players Drew Peterson, Baylor Scheierman, JD Davison and Anton Watson, all of whom are on assignment with Boston’s G League affiliate.

Denver ruled out starting forward Aaron Gordon (calf) for Tuesday’s meeting between the two most recent NBA champions.

The Nuggets matchup closes out a four-game Western Conference road trip for the Celtics, who won in Minnesota and Houston before falling to OKC 105-92.

Jayson Tatum collided with the first row of seats during the loss to the Thunder, bruising his forearm, but he was not listed on Boston’s injury report. Nor was Jaylen Brown, who missed the first two games of the road trip with a shoulder strain before returning to the court on Sunday.

The Celtics have had their entire roster available (excluding G League assignments) for just two games this season.
