Robert Kraft reveals spending parameters on free agents, coaching search
The Patriots will likely have to pay two head coaches for the second straight year.
The team was still paying out the remainder of Bill Belichick’s contract during the 2024 season, and they’ll have to do the same with Jerod Mayo after firing him Sunday.

Team owner Robert Kraft said Monday that won’t affect the team’s spending in free agency or their new head coaching search.
“The answer is no. We’ve always had a situation where we spend to the cap,” Kraft said. “We have never told any coach or limited the spending. The only thing we’ve said is if you exceed the cap, we’d like to see it leveled out over three years so that we never get way out of hand. But spending to the cap or above the cap is not — we want to win. That’s our priority first.”
The Patriots will carry over $30 million in cap space into the 2025 offseason, but historically under Belichick, the team did spent up to the cap, including in 2023.
The Patriots have an NFL-leading $130 million in cap space to spend this offseason.
