Freshman Ann Kanders turned in 20 points, as Swampscott closed out a 48-44 victory over Whittier Tech in the Commonwealth Athletic Conference.

Sarah Poland scored 26 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, while Evie Schwartz and Alice Wallerstein scored 16 points each as Lincoln-Sudbury beat Bedford 67-56 in the Dual County League. … May Isenberg scored 23 points, and Ali Davagian and Teagan Morrisey had 10 points each as Concord-Carlisle (3-1) defeated Boston Latin, 53-45.

Hannah Kuriscak tallied 16 points, and Elyza Wagner scored 10 points as Apponequet edged Greater New Bedford 50-47 in the South Coast Conference.

Regan Antonelli scored 19 points, and Dyanna Grant Johnson had 13 points and 19 rebounds as Somerville defeated Lynn English 54-49 in the Greater Boston League.

FOOTBALL

North Andover head coach John Dubzinski stepped down after 10 seasons at the helm. The highlight of his run was the 2018 team which went undefeated and captured the Div. 2 Super Bowl title. Prior to North Andover, Dubzinski served as head coach at Arlington for four seasons where he posted a 23-21 record.

Essex Tech named Tim Freiermuth as its new head football coach. He replaces Dan Connors, who is staying on the staff. Freiermuth previously coached at Hamilton-Wenham.

CLASS NOTES

Former city basketball legend Steve Malloy passed away at the age of 59. According to friends, Malloy battled health issues in recent years.

A star at Don Bosco in the early 1980s’, the 6-foot-6 forward went on to play his college basketball at Fairleigh Dickinson and Cleveland State. Following college, Malloy played with the Washington Generals, a touring squad which competed against the Harlem Globetrotters.
