Now that 2024 is over, I present you with my favorite Pioneer Press news photos.
There was triumph and tragedy in 2024 — sometimes on the same day, such as Feb. 18, when crowds in Minneapolis cheered Jessie Diggins at the Loppet World Cup while mourners in Burnsville placed flowers for four slain first responders.
Spring came early. The USA Olympic Gymnastics trials and hometown hero Suni Lee came to Minneapolis.
The Vikings and their new quarterback Sam Darnold surprised everyone — including themselves, I think.
And St. Paul got a new statue: a giant loon.
These are just a sample of the images that helped illustrate and document the year.
