The Qifutan has a 360-degree ball joint and adjustable telescopic arm (6.5 to 8.1 inches) to provide the ideal viewing angle and distance without obstructing your view. This mount also includes adjustable feet, where the phone rests, which are most fitting for cell phones that are 4.0 to 7.0 inches in size.
Pros and Cons
Pros
Three different mounting location options
Adjustable telescopic arm
Heat-resistant suction cup
Cons
Adhesive required for dashboard installation
Our Experience
The Qifutan was our favorite phone mount to test for quite a few reasons, mainly thanks to its stability and great durability, leading us to believe this is the best mount for longevity.
Visibility: The dashboard mount provided us with easy phone access and a good viewing angle for our GPS and music app if we wanted to switch songs or playlists quickly during the driving test. The only reason we docked visibility a half-point was because a dashboard and windshield mount naturally interfere with the entire scope of view across your front windshield, which can be disruptive at first. However, after adjusting to the new mount, we found safety to be no concern as we quickly adjusted to the change and could drive easily without an issue.
Flexibility: The 360-degree angle adjustment advertised by the manufacturer was evident during our testing. The mount can be rotated with ease, and the locking mechanism provides great stability and allows you to readjust as needed.
Stability: This mount performed the best in our stability tests. After hitting potholes, going over speed bumps, and taking sharp turns, we noticed no rattling, leaning, or rotation from the mount. Also, of the suction mounts in our review, this was the only one that had no lifting after installation, and upon changing locations from the dashboard to the windshield, there was no effect on the suction or stability.
Longevity: After keeping this mount installed for 24 hours, including one hour in 90-degree weather conditions, the adhesive showed no melting and continued to stay secure without any lifting or rotation. If taken care of, we believe this mount would be a long-lasting addition to your vehicle.
What Customers Are Saying
Amazon review score: 4.3 out of 5.0 (over 16,000 reviews)
Overall, customers are very happy with their purchase of the Qifutan mount. Buyers like the mount’s fit, quality, and ease of installation, proving it a reliable, low-cost option. However, some buyers had mixed feelings about long-term adhesion, particularly when leaving the mount in the heat for extended periods. While our warm-weather testing proved this mount to be durable and reliable, people in more extreme warm-weather climates may want to consider a non-adhesive option.
2. Lamicall Car Phone Mount: Best Air Vent Mount
Lamicall Car Phone Mount Review
Cost: $10
Overall rating: 4.9 out of 5.0
What’s in the box: Phone mount and vent adapter
Mount type: Air vent
The Lamicall Car Phone Mount is the best air vent mount we tested in our review. With adjustable feet and clamps for your phone, this mount is suitable for nearly all smartphone models and cases, including thicker ones like battery and wallet cases. The silicone panel your phone rests on is heat resistant and can face anywhere from -4.0 to 194.0 degrees Fahrenheit.

This phone car mount uses a hook to attach to your car’s vent, ranging from 10.0 to 29.0 millimeters. The thickness of the vent blade is less than 4.2 mm, allowing it to fit almost all vents aside from vehicles with round vents, as the hook is unable to close around rounded surfaces.
Pros and Cons
Pros
Good phone compatibility
Heat resistant material
Cons
Not fit for round vents
Our Experience
The Lamicall was by far our favorite vent mount we tested thanks to the durable clamp, quick-release button, and phone compatibility.
Visibility: A major benefit of air vent mounts is that you have no obstruction of the road in front of the windshield as the phone is placed lower in your vehicle. This also ensures easier accessibility to the cell phone, which we prefer. The only downside is that these mounts block the air vent, which might make feeling the AC from that vent difficult to impossible.
Flexibility: This mount offers good angle adjustment but less so compared to dashboard mounts. The vent can block the mount from leaning left to right and moving up and down, especially if you have a larger phone. However, this will depend on the size of your phone and, potentially, the type of vent in your vehicle.
Stability: This vent mount offered great stability with little to no rattling or leaning over speed bumps and potholes. There was no shifting we noticed when taking sharp turns. The additional clamps on each side that align with the vent make this mount even more stable than other vent mounts we’ve tested.
Longevity: Based on stability and heat-resistant durability, we believe this mount is built to last. The two side clamps that attach to the front of the vent enhance longevity, the quick-release button is reliable, and the durability evident in this mount after installation and testing proves this mount to be a good long-term purchase.
What Customers Are Saying
Amazon review score: 4.5 out of 5.0 (approx. 8,000 reviews)
Overall, buyers are very happy with their purchase of the Lamicall phone mount, with buyers noting the compact size prevents view obstruction while also being compatible with many different phone and vent types. Negative reviews question this holder’s durability, saying it either broke easily or broke their air vents. Neither of these concerns was validated during our testing experience, but they speak to the importance of confirming this mount is compatible with your phone and vehicle before purchasing.
3. iOttie Auto Sense Car Phone Mount: Best Charging Phone Mount
iOttie Auto Sense Car Phone Mount Review
Cost: $50
Overall rating: 4.5 out of 5.0
What’s in the box: Phone mount, dashboard adapter, dashboard adhesive, and car charging adapter
Mount type: Dashboard or windshield
The iOttie Auto Sense Car Phone Mount is the only charging mount in our review. You have the option to use this mount as a wireless car charger, as the mount is Qi-certified for iPhones (7.5 Watts) or Androids (10.0 W). If wireless charging is not an option, the iOttie comes with a car outlet adapter that can be used to charge your phone.

On top of charging features, this mount has motion-sensing technology to automatically open and close the clamping arms for convenience while ensuring a secure and stable hold. The mounting base requires a flat surface to adhere securely, but it also includes a dash pad to adhere to the suction cup on textured dashboards.
Pros and Cons
Pros
Automatic clamp arms
Wired and wireless charging options
Extendable and retractable telescopic arm
Cons
High cost
Wireless charging requires a case less than 6.0 mm thick
Our Experience
The iOttie is a great mount if you’re looking for some extra features designed to enhance ease of use. However, our testing experience showed some issues with the mount, therefore ranking it lower than more traditional phone mounts.
Visibility: The visibility of this mount was average in our opinion, similar to the Qifutan mount. Visibility is often obstructed for the driver when attaching any object to the dashboard or windshield. The view of our phone was great on the dashboard, and we’d definitely recommend it instead of mounting on your windshield.
Flexibility: This mount offered great angle adjustment. While bulkier in size, the attachment sticks out further from the base, causing no issues with adjusting the mount as needed before locking the mount into place.
Stability: We were disappointed in this mount’s stability. The mount fell off twice from the windshield and twice from the dashboard throughout our testing process. After splashing some water on the mount, it seemed to adhere better throughout the rest of our driving test. However, after 24 hours, the mount had slightly lifted from the dashboard.
Longevity: Despite some stability issues, this mount is very durable and designed with quality. While the suction wasn’t the best, there was no melting or difficulty removing the mount’s adhesive after our testing process.
What Customers Are Saying
Amazon review score: 4.3 out of 5.0 (approx. 4,000 reviews)
Buyers are very happy with the stability and performance of the charging mount, saying it holds their phone securely and charges reliably, particularly using the wired charging option. That said, customers had mixed feelings about suction, wireless charging, and the auto clamp feature.
4. Miracase Phone Holder: Best Mount for Larger Phones
Miracase Phone Holder Review
Cost: $15
Overall rating: 4.5 out of 5.0
What’s in the box: Phone mount and vent adapter
Mount type: Air vent
The Miracase Phone Holder is designed for stability. Its simple locking design uses a steel metal hook to clamp onto the air vent blades. Similar to other phone holders, the Mirase has a quick-release button to easily grab your phone from the clamps when you’re done driving. The mount’s easy access from the vent ensures hands-free calling, navigation, charging, and listening to music.

This phone mount for cars has a 360-degree rotation to ensure you reach the best viewing angles while keeping your phone secure. The length of the vent clip extends up to 1.4 in., making it compatible with all straight vent blades under 1.4 in. wide.
Pros and Cons
Pros
360-degree rotation
Auto-release arm clamps
Metal vent clamp
Cons
Not compatible with round vents
Less secure mount attachment
Our Experience
The Miracase is another great air vent option with an easy-to-use design and good rotation, the only downside concerns stability and longevity.
Visibility: Similarly to the Lamicall, the vent mount doesn’t obstruct the road view, offering a safer option above the windshield or dashboard mounts, especially for new drivers. These types of mounts also offer great visibility, making reach and access much easier.
Flexibility: This vent offers good angle adjustment but less than other mounts. The vent can block the mount from leaning, despite the 360-degree rotation as advertised. Depending on your car’s make and model and your phone size, you may not encounter the same issue we did while testing.
Stability: The Miracase offers great stability compared to some of the dashboard and windshield mounts we tested, but it lacked the extra features on the Lamicall. Only one clamp is used to attach the mount to the vent, whereas the Lamicall had the main clamp and two clamps on the side that helped to line up the mount to the vent. As a result, we noticed some rattling during our driving test.
Longevity: Despite the metal vent clamp, we found this mount to be lower quality than other mounts we tested. However, the clamps around our phone were very secure, making up in areas where leaning and rattling can occur on the road.
What Customers Are Saying
Amazon review score: 4.3 out of 5.0 (approx. 30,000 reviews)
Overall, buyers like the ease of use this mount offers, along with the sturdiness of the clamp that locks around their air vent blade. Customers also appreciate the auto-release feature, which makes it simple to grab their phone when in a rush. However, some buyers disapproved of the fit and overall value.
5. VANMASS Car Phone Mount: Best Mount for Smaller Phones
VANMASS Car Phone Mount Review
Cost: $25
Overall rating: 4.0 out of 5.0
What’s in the box: Phone mount, dashboard and windshield attachment, air vent attachment, and dashboard adhesive
Mount type: Dashboard or windshield

The VANMASS mount is made with durable plastic, metal, and rubber, all designed to withstand extreme temperatures from -40.0 to -194.0 degrees Fahrenheit. On top of the high-quality design, this mount comes with a melt-resistant adhesive to prevent dashboard damage.
Pros and Cons
Pros
Wide temperature-resistant range
Multiple installation options
Cons
Requires an adhesive for mounting
Bulkier design
Our Experience
The VANMASS is a good, low-cost option for dashboard or windshield phone mount. However, we had some concerns regarding stability and longevity.
Visibility: The VANMASS, like other dashboard and windshield mounts, caused some view obstruction, but the wide angle adjustment made it simple for us to view and access our phone throughout our testing process.
Flexibility: This mount offered good angle adjustment without any interference with the dashboard to get the right angle. However, depending on the size of your phone and preferred orientation, it may be difficult to achieve an easy-to-access view from your windshield if not installed strategically.
Stability: We were fairly disappointed in the suction cups’ adhesion to the dashboard. The suction had a hard time carrying the weight of larger phones, making this a better mount for small smartphones. The suction began to lift about 15 minutes into driving, then more around 25 minutes, then it was off completely. We also noticed some rattling over speed bumps and potholes but no leaning when taking sharp turns. The manual arm clamps also took a few tries to achieve the right amount of tension to cause no rattling.
Longevity: When installing the dashboard mount, we noticed it seemed to lack the ability to stay secure in hot weather. Despite the wide range of temperature resistance as advertised by the manufacturer, there was some lifting from the mount after it had been installed on our dashboard for 24 hours. That being said, the mount was more reliable on the windshield.
What Customers Are Saying
Amazon review score: 4.4 out of 5.0 (approx. 53,000 reviews)
Buyers are mostly pleased with their purchase of the VANMASS phone mount. Most customers share the assembly process is straightforward and the fit is versatile for many different phones. However, some buyers were disappointed in the suction and stability, particularly when using the mount as a dashboard or windshield mount.
Car Phone Mounts Buyers Guide
Car phone mounts come in many styles, some more suitable to your needs than others. Before purchasing your new car phone mount, it’s worth considering phone size, type of mount, and charging capabilities.
Phone Size Compatibility
Some mounts are incompatible with larger or smaller phone models depending on the distance between the side clamps. With this in mind, it’s important to check that the phone mount you’re most interested in will be compatible with your phone. In our experience, some clamps were narrower than others while testing, and despite being able to fit each, some mounts were easier to attach than others because of the distance the clamps would open.
Mount Type
There are a few different mount options available when selecting a car mount for your phone. Each option has pros and cons but the most common are windshield, dashboard, air vent, and cup holder. When selecting the right mount, you’ll want to consider accessibility and visibility.
Windshield Mount
A windshield car mount often uses a suction cup to adhere the mount to the windshield. This eliminates the need for an adhesive that many other mounting locations rely on. A windshield mount also gives you a great view of your phone’s GPS navigation to keep your eyes on the road. However, placing a mount on the windshield can obstruct your view in some areas, especially if you have a larger smartphone.
Dashboard Mount
Dashboards are among the most common mounting locations for a car phone holder. This type of mount requires an adhesive for application, which can become ineffective in hotter temperatures. While the dashboard offers one of the best accessibility locations to reach your phone and ensure hands-free calling, your view can be obstructed similarly to windshield mounts.
Air Vent Mount
Air vent mounts are great for easy access as your phone is installed directly next to your steering wheel. These mounts also use clamps to attach to the vent, eliminating the need for a suction or adhesive, and protecting your car’s interior if and when you remove the mount.
However, vent mounts tend to block airflow, and while this only affects the vent where the mount is installed, if you live in hotter climates and rely on AC in your car, this style may not be the right fit.
Cup Holder Mount
Cup holder mounts are less common but offer some advantages. The installation is easy as the size simply molds to the size of your cup holder, preventing the need for clamps or adhesives. This mount style also ensures a completely unobstructed view of the road. However, cup holder mounts do not provide the best access and require you to look down at your phone which may not be the safest option, especially for new drivers or drivers who frequently drive in busier areas.
Charging Capabilities
Depending on how much you use your phone and how frequently you rely on GPS, you may want to opt for a mount that has charging options. Today, cars are equipped with car charger outlets, but some mounts come with wired or wireless charging options. Wired charging is, in some cases, more reliable but it does require additional wires that can get in your way or become tangled over time.
Wireless charging is a great option if you have a MagSafe phone that is equipped with wireless features. However, sometimes wireless charging devices do not work with a phone case on, which can become a tedious task if you regularly have a phone case on your cell phone. This makes it especially important to read customer reviews and product details to know whether or not wireless charging works with your phone case.

Car Phone Mounts: FAQ
Below are some commonly asked questions about car phone mounts:
Where is the best place to put a cell phone holder in my car?
Windshields are one of the most common installation spots for drivers because you do not need the sticky adhesive that is essential for a dashboard mount, and your air vents won’t be blocked with a vent mount.
What are the disadvantages of a car phone holder?
Overall, the disadvantages of a car phone holder are limited, but air vent mounts do block airflow, and other installation spots can obstruct the visibility of the road and your phone. Also, some designs may not be compatible with thick phone cases and larger or smaller phones, making it important to check the list of applicable phones listed on the manufacturer’s site before making your purchase.
Do phone holders damage car vents?
Generally speaking, phone mounts do not damage your car vents. As long as your phone mount is not completely obstructing the vent to fully prevent airflow, and you are careful removing the mount from your vent, there is no concern about damaging your car vents.
Full Car Phone Mount Testing Methodology
To test the best car phone mounts in our review, we wanted to account for the most important factors you would want in a new mount: visibility, flexibility, stability, and longevity. We have provided an in-depth understanding of how we’ve tested each phone mount.
Visibility
To assess visibility, we wanted to consider both how simple it was for us to see our phone and how much or how little the mount obstructed our view of the road. By driving in our testing vehicle for one hour per mount, we could assess how simple or difficult it was for our driver to see and access our smartphone and whether or not we noticed an obstructed view of the road through the car’s windshield.
Flexibility
Flexibility was tested by installing each phone mount and assessing the angle adjustment abilities of the ball joint to determine how good of an angle each mount can provide for our driver to ensure we had access to our phone or GPS without interfering with road safety by having to look away or glance at the phone.
Stability
We believe stability is one of the more important factors to consider in a car phone mount. With this in mind, we wanted to see how much, if any, rattling, shifting, or leaning we noticed when hitting potholes, going over speed bumps, and taking sharp turns.
Longevity
When buying any product, longevity is important. To test longevity, each mount was installed in a vehicle for 24 hours, with one hour being spent in hot weather with the engine off. We were most interested in seeing if adhesives for windshield and dashboard mounts would lift from or melt into the surface. For vent mounts, we were interested in seeing if any shifting would occur as the mount only relies on a single clamp to attach to the vehicle’s vent.
How We Score Products
Star ratings help us differentiate between the top-performing products in our reviews. The car phone mounts in this review received an average score of 4.6 stars out of 5.0 stars. Below, you’ll find more about how we rate each product.
5.0 Stars: A 5.0-star rating is the highest score we give our products in any review. If the phone mount we’ve tested excels in stability and longevity, while providing the best angles for viewing without obstructing visibility of the road, we’d give the mount 5.0 stars.
4.0 Stars: A 4.0-star rating is above average, meaning that if the mount is fairly stable and offers great angles but begins to lift during our 24-hour testing process, we’d likely give the product a 4.0-star average rating.
3.0 Stars: A 3.0-star score is an average rating for products in our review. If we notice some shaking or leaning from the phone mount when driving, but every other aspect within our testing criteria scores well you’d likely see an average rating of 3.0 stars.
2.0 Stars: A 2.0-star rating is a below-average score. If the mount does not clamp our phone securely, resulting in it falling off while driving, we’d give the phone mount a below-average rating.
1.0 Star: A 1.0-star rating is the lowest possible rating we give in any review. If the mount is in some way defective or not compatible with our phone despite being advertised as an appropriate fit, we would give the car mount 1.0 star.
