‘Trump 2024’ logo on water tower causes stir in Massachusetts town

The Hanson town administrator is condemning a “Trump 2024” logo projected on a water tower, saying the action could “cost a significant amount of taxpayer dollars.”

Officials in the South Shore town are slated to issue a cease-and-desist order to the resident who they say is “projecting the image of a political sign from their property” onto the municipal water tower.

Town Administrator Lisa Green did not mention that the political sign is a “Trump 2024” logo in a statement released Saturday night.

Officials became aware of the activity on Friday.

”This misleads the public into believing that this activity is sanctioned by or condoned by the Town,” Green said. “As a governmental entity, the Town of Hanson does not endorse candidates for any office from any political party, nor does the Town allow political signs to be displayed on municipal property.”

Projecting a sign of support for the former president and Republican nominee on the water tower is a “violation of town bylaws,” per Hanson’s sign regulations.

The cease-and-desist order that the town intends to issue the resident, who was not named by the town,  carries the “maximum fine of $100 per day” until the logo is no longer visible, Green said.

The fine, however, will “likely not cover” expenses that the town is putting into addressing the situation.

Town highway employees are shining a spotlight on the water tower to dim the projection, and further measures are being considered, Green said.

“This individual’s actions have the potential to cost a significant amount of taxpayer dollars,” she said, “including attorney fees, overtime to pay Highway Department workers to turn the spotlight on and off each day, and the potential for having to rent or purchase stronger lighting equipment.”
