Upcoming Housing and Land Use-Related Events:
Tuesday, Oct. 1 at 11 a.m.: The NYC Council’s Subcommittee on Landmarks, Public Sitings and Dispositions will meet about land use applications for the preservation of affordable housing in four city-owned buildings in Brooklyn, and for the South Jamaica Gateway Rezoning, which would allow development of two mixed-use residential buildings with 143 affordable housing units in Jamaica, Queens. Tuesday, Oct. 1, 10 a.m.-1 p.m.: City Councilmember Diana Ayala’s office in East Harlem (105 E. 116th St.) and the Safety Net Project will offer a free legal clinic for NYCHA tenants. More here.
Tuesday, Oct. 1 at 12 p.m.: The Department of Housing, Preservation and Development will host an online workshop on what to expect in housing court. More here.
Wednesday, Oct. 2 at 6:30 p.m.: The Bronx Documentary Center will present a screening of “ZIP Code Matters,” a documentary film exploring how the neighborhoods we live in impact our lives. The event will feature at Q&A with filmmaker and fair housing expert Sena Mourad Friedman and Davon Russell, executive vice president of the Bronx nonprofit WHEDco (City Limits’ Editor Jeanmarie Evelly will moderate). Thursday, Oct. 3 at 4 p.m.: The Bronx’s City Council District 16’s Tenant, Block & Neighborhood Advisory Council will host its 7th annual Housing Conference, focused on tenant protections. More here.
Monday, Oct. 7, 2-8 p.m.: City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams is organizing free estate planning assistance for qualified New Yorkers aged 50 and older who earn less than $100,000 a year. This session will take place at Goddard Riverside Community Center, 593 Columbus Ave. in Manhattan. Participants must fill out a questionnaire to reserve their spot. More here.
