ROUNDUP

CROSS COUNTRY

The 1-2 punch of Ciara Evans and Maggie Abely proved to be just enough to give Newton North the 5000 C title at Saturday’s Bay State Invitational meet at the Wrentham Developmental Center.

Evans won the race in a time of 18:21.61, while Abely took  third in 19:08.09. The Tigers finished with 31 points as a team, 18 more than Bishop Feehan. The Shamrocks were led by Ally Oram (fifth, 19:11.79) and Sophie Shaw (sixth, 19:28.91).

Holliston placed third with 92 points. Maggie Kuchman finished second (18:31.27), while Annabelle Lynch was seventh (19:37.37).

The Newton North boys shared in the fun, easily winning the C title with 28 points. Max Badri won the race in a time of 16:34.6 and he was joined in the top 10 by teammates Knox Wallask (third, 16:52.73), Will Keneally (seventh, 17:09.4), Thomas Ruane (eighth, 17:13.01) and Luke Mantell (10th, 17:18.51).

Peabody’s Declan Smith cruised to victory in the B race, winning in 16:05.9, more than 23 seconds ahead of runner-up Michael Mohoric (16:29.6). Braintree easily won the team title with 38 points thanks to Anthony Gryciuk (fourth, 17:01.3) and Liam Sweeney (seventh, 17:48.81).

Boston Latin took a 1-2 in the A race and that was more than enough to give them the team title with 48 points. Bilal Elhaji won the race (16:09.2), four seconds ahead of Brendan Nolan (16:13.4). The City of Boston Cross Country team placed second with 76 points as Bradon Speiss was fourth overall (16:19.02).

In the girls A race, it was a Bay State Conference showdown of sorts as Milton held off Wellesley by a point (59-60). Grace Danielson took fifth for the Wildcats (19:23.98), while teammate Megan Carew was seventh (20:37.83). Wellesley placed three runners in the top 10 keyed by Maddie Tuxbury (fourth 19:16.5), Bridget Reidy (sixth, 19:30.36) and Madeleine Coggins (eighth, 20:39.94).

Senior Emersyn DePonte of Taunton won the A race in a time of 18:38.0.

In the B race, Peabody captured the team title with 34 points due in large part to Leah Buckley (fourth, 19:38.2), Lauren Foley (fifth, 19:48.1), Ella Braz (seventh, 20:09.6) and Ava Buckley (eighth, 20:23.7). Westfield standout Megan Moran won the race in a time of 18:45.7.

BOYS SOCCER

Alex Stott scored both goals for Medway in their 2-1 victory against nonleague opponent Nipmuc. … Junior Garrett Ignacio scored twice to lift Old Rochester to a 3-1 victory over Falmouth. …Josue Guevara had a hat trick as Somerville rolled to an 8-1 win over Haverhill. … Rowan Jensen scored a pair of goals as Bishop Stang shut out Apponequet, 4-0.

Finn Rodger and Max Gulino scored with Nicholas Lopes assisting on both as North Reading (8-0-1) blanked Weston, 2-0. … Will Baltas had a goal and an assist as St. John’s (S) edged Shrewsbury, 2-1.

GIRLS SOCCER

Lexi McKenna netted a hat trick as Methuen (6-1-1) edged Pentucket 3-2 in nonleague play.

Mallori Waldron had two goals, while Maddie Murphy added three assists as Dexter Southfield (5-1-1) rolled to a 7-0 win over Cushing Academy.

FIELD HOCKEY

In the Cape & Islands League, Sam Clarke had a hat trick with an assist as Monomoy blanked Nauset 7-0.

Alyssa Norden and Camdyn Driscoll both notched hat tricks as St. Mary’s of Lynn (7-2-1) rolled to a 9-0 victory over Catholic Central League opponent Arlington Catholic.

Julianna Casucci had four goals as Uxbridge defeated Longmeadow, 6-0.

FOOTBALL

Northeast relied on its vaunted ground attack to ground out a victory.

Isaiah Robles rushed for 150 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries, while Isaiah Bueno added 110 rushing yards and a score as the Knights (2-1) defeated Malden 41-30 in a nonleague contest. … Jayson Dyer rushed for 160 yards and a score as Barnstable (4-0) blanked Amherst-Pelham 35-0. … Jack Lambert threw a pair of touchdown passes as Bridgewater-Raynham (1-3) defeated Middleboro, 42-20. … Colby Catterton threw for 197 yards and four touchdowns while rushing for a fifth as Nashoba Tech (4-0) bested McCann Tech, 48-0.

In the Mayflower Athletic Conference, Sam Perry threw for three touchdowns and ran for two more as Diman (3-0) defeated Blue Hills, 34-8.

Cam Aieta rushed for two scores as Weymouth (4-0) cruised to a 34-0 win over New Bedford. … Jack Shapiro rushed for three touchdowns, threw for a fourth and also had a kickoff return for a score as Latin Academy (2-2) defeated Boston Latin, 35-27.

In the Dual County League, Will Hoover hauled in three touchdown passes from Matt Carleton in the first half as Concord-Carlisle (3-0) went on to defeat Waltham, 32-7. Carleton also had a 72-yard TD run.

In the Bay State Conference, Lukas Prock threw for 280 yards and three touchdowns, including the game-winning 34-yarder to Matthew Leibman (seven catches for 120 yards and two scores) as Wellesley (3-1) beat Walpole, 35-28.

Rowan Merryman and Maxwell Parent each scored twice as St. Mary’s (3-0) coasted to a 59-7 win over Arlington Catholic in the Catholic Central League.

In the ISL, Ty Ciongoli completed 12-of-17 passes for 255 yards and four touchdowns as St. Sebastian’s rolled to a 35-18 win over Lawrence Academy. Kaelan Chudzinski had seven of those receptions for 197 yards and two touchdowns. … Colin Kenney threw for one score and ran for another as Noble and Greenough (1-1) defeated Thayer Academy, 21-7.

Jalen Morris had two interceptions, one which he returned for a touchdown, as Rivers defeated Groton, 35-7. Morris also rushed for one score and threw for another. … Cam Kelley ran for two scores as Belmont Hill (2-0) defeated St. George’s, 36-7.

Luke Felago completed 12-of-22 passes for 181 yards and a touchdown, while Sam Elfner booted a pair of field goals as Middlesex (2-0) edged Roxbury Latin, 20-17. … C.J. Farrell ran for one score and caught a TD pass as St. Mark’s (1-1) snapped a 15-game losing streak with a 21-6 win over Brooks.

In the South Shore League, Ben Squarcia rushed for 150 yards and three touchdowns, while adding a TD reception as Mashpee (2-1) defeated Rockland, 36-13. Squarcia also recorded six tackles and an interception.
