Thursday Pickorama
Bigger isn’t necessarily better.
That cliché was made abundantly clear last Friday night when the Middlesex League Freedom sent a loud message to the larger schools of the Middlesex League Liberty. Stoneham rolled into Arlington and proceeded to run up 500 rushing yards in an impressive 49-21 win. Fast forward to Woburn-Burlington where the Red Devils knocked off the large school Tanners.
Ok, yes I am bitter about it because those two games were the only two I lost last week en route to a second straight 8-2 week. On a good note, we didn’t jinx a coach going for his 200th win as David Woods and Bishop Fenwick got the job done, allowing him to become the 58th coach in state history to reach that milestone.
Milford over NATICK: Solid nonleague schedule will pay dividends down the road in my humble opinion.
Catholic Memorial over LEOMINSTER: Knights get the call but it won’t be easy.
Duxbury over FRANKLIN: Dragons can beat you in a variety of ways.
KING PHILIP over Foxboro: Last year’s game was a classic battle of two teams who went on to win state titles.
Marshfield over MANSFIELD: Rams starting to get things rolling.
Xaverian over SPRINGFIELD CENTRAL: Not wild about this pick, but when in doubt, take the team closer to home.
ST. SEBASTIAN’S over Lawrence Academy: Bounce back effort for the host Arrows.
ST. JOHN’S PREP over LaSalle (RI): Eagles roll in the Saturday afternoon special.
BB&N over MILTON ACADEMY: The Men of Willey pick off a second straight solid ISL-7 foe.
Walpole over WELLESLEY: Can see Noah Mackenzie being the difference here.
