Patriots-49ers injury report: Four Pats trending downwards for Week 4

Four players missed practice Wednesday as the Patriots prepare to play the 49ers this week.

Cornerback Alex Austin, linebacker Anfernee Jennings, guard Michael Jordan and offensive tackle Vederian Lowe all were non-participants Wednesday. They’ll need to make progress to travel to San Francisco to play Sunday against the 49ers.

Here’s Wednesday’s full injury report:

DID NOT PARTICIPATE

CB Alex Austin (ankle)
LB Anfernee Jennings (shoulder)
G Michael Jordan (ankle)
T Vederian Lowe (knee)

LIMITED PARTICIPATION

C David Andrews (not injury related – resting player)
CB Christian Gonzalez (shoulder)
TE Hunter Henry (ankle),
CB Jonathan Jones (shoulder)
G Sidy Sow (ankle)
T Caedan Wallace (knee)

FULL PARTICIPATION

G Michael Onwenu (wrist)
S Jabrill Peppers (ankle)

Among limited participants, the statuses of Sow and Wallace bear monitoring. If Lowe, Jordan, Sow and Wallace can’t play Sunday, that would likely mean Demontrey Jacobs would start at left tackle and Zach Thomas would start at left guard. Both Jacobs and Thomas were claimed off waivers late last month and saw their first offensive action with the Patriots in Week 3’s loss to the Jets.

If Wallace and Sow are healthy, they would likely start at left tackle and left guard. It would be Sow’s 2024 debut.

If Jennings can’t play in Week 4, it would likely mean a bigger role for veteran defensive end Deatrich Wise. It could also push Jamree Kromah, who was signed off the Bears’ practice squad last week, to make his Patriots debut.

Austin was moved up the Patriots’ cornerback depth chart last week with Marco Wilson inactive as a healthy scratch. Wilson would likely be thrust back into the No. 4 cornerback role if Austin can’t play.
