Eight Red Sox minor leaguers to participate in Arizona Fall League
Major League Baseball has announced the rosters for the upcoming Arizona Fall League season, and eight Red Sox minor leaguers will be among those set to participate.
Boston’s participants include right-handers Cooper Adams, Danny Kirwin, Connor Steinbaugh and Tyler Uberstine, left-hander Zach Fogell, catcher Brooks Brannon, infielder Max Ferguson and outfielder Caden Rose.
Of that group, Brannon is the most highly regarded. A ninth-round pick out of high school in 2022, the 20-year-old currently ranks as Boston’s No. 27 prospect according to MLB Pipeline and just wrapped up a season in which he batted .244 with six home runs and a .697 OPS in 62 games, mostly at Low-A Salem.
Though the numbers didn’t necessarily reflect it this summer, Brannon is also renowned for his monster power potential and boasts some of the highest exit velocities of any Red Sox minor leaguer.
Ferguson is the only AFL participant from the Red Sox system who is currently playing above Single-A. He was originally obtained in the Jay Groome trade but is coming off an injury-plagued season at Double-A in which he batted .152 in 28 games while stealing just six bases after swiping 61 in 2022 and 28 in 2023.
In addition to the eight players, the Red Sox will also have two representatives on the Mesa Solar Sox coaching staff, including Portland Sea Dogs pitching coach Sean Isaac and Fort Myers-based trainer Marissa Sciabarra.
