Red Sox lineups: Tyler O’Neill dealing with back tightness, won’t start Game 1

Red Sox outfielder Tyler O’Neill is dealing with back tightness and is out of the lineup for the first game of Sunday’s doubleheader against the Minnesota Twins.

“T.O. is a little bit tight, he was a little bit tight yesterday, his back,” Red Sox manager Alex Cora said pregame. “We’ll see how he goes today, if he can go in one of the two games.”

O’Neill has been Boston’s biggest power threat over the course of the season despite missing 45 games due to a series of ailments. The pending free agent has hit a team-high 31 home runs in 109 games while posting an .860 OPS.

Without O’Neill or the injured Rafael Devers in the heart of the order, the Red Sox will bat Romy Gonzalez second, Masataka Yoshida third and Trevor Story fourth. Story has been one of Boston’s best hitters since his return from the IL earlier this month, but Sunday will also mark the first time he’s batted higher than fifth since before his shoulder injury back in April.

Nick Pivetta (5-11, 4.37) will start the first game of the doubleheader against Minnesota’s Pablo Lopez (15-8, 3.84).
