Tata Nexon: A Bold SUV That is Perfect for City Streets and Adventures

The Tata Nexon greatly impacted the compact SUV market in 2017 with its cool looks, nice interior, and many features. This smaller SUV became popular with city folks who wanted to stand out. The Indian automaker has released the 2023 Nexon facelift, which has many updates inside and out. In this blog, we will discover why the Nexon is such a hit among compact SUV fans in India.

Exterior Design that Stands Out

The Tata Nexon‘s most striking aspect is its head-turning design, which looks unlike any other SUV on Indian roads. The front profile looks futuristic, with the sleek LED daytime running lamps forming “tri-arrow” patterns. These also double up as turn indicators when signalling left or right. The projector headlamps and fog lamps are neatly integrated into the sculpted bumper.

In profile, the Nexon looks like a typical SUV with squarish wheel arches, cladding and roof rails. The 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels add to the premium appeal. At the rear, the Nexon facelift gets distinctive LED taillamps and a light strip with tri-arrow motifs. The roof-mounted spoiler with an integrated high-mount stop lamp is another highlight.

The Nexon turns heads wherever it goes, thanks to the striking front and rear styling based on Tata’s new design language. The SUV measures 3995 mm long, 1804 mm wide and 1620 mm tall with a wheelbase of 2498 mm.

Premium and Feature-Rich Cabin

Step inside the Nexon, and you are greeted by a stylish interior finished in a black and white dual-tone theme. The flat-bottom steering wheel looks sporty with thumb contours and steering-mounted controls. The instrument console includes a colour MID screen flanked by analogue dials. The free-standing touchscreen infotainment system adds to the premium feel, as do the gloss black and silver accents across the dash.

The well-cushioned seats are wrapped in textured fabric and offer ample support. Passenger space is generous, while the 382-litre boot can easily accommodate weekend luggage for four. Occupants will appreciate the automatic climate control system and rear AC vents on hot summer days.

The top-end Nexon also pampers occupants with a voice-command-operated sunroof, auto headlamps and wipers, push-button start/stop, cooled glovebox, cruise control, rear parking camera, and more. The 10.2-inch touchscreen supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity.

Well-balanced Performance

Petrol and diesel engine options power the Nexon. The 1.2-litre turbo-petrol produces 118 bhp and 170 Nm, while the 1.5-litre turbo-diesel churns out 113.3 bhp with 260 Nm. Depending on the variant, you can choose between a 6-speed manual and an AMT gearbox. Tata has also introduced a 7-speed DCT automatic exclusively for the petrol model.

The petrol engine has a solid mid-range punch, allowing easy drivability in urban traffic. Out on the highway, the Nexon feels stable even at triple-digit speeds. The diesel motor also offers smooth performance, although it gets noisy after 2000 rpm. Fuel efficiency stands at 17-18 km/l for petrol variants and 22-24 km/l for diesel models, as per ARAI.

Enhanced Safety

As one of the safest SUVs starting just under ₹10 lakhs, the new Nexon sets high benchmarks in this department. It is the first Indian car to receive a 5-star safety rating in Global NCAP crash tests. The list of safety kits includes six airbags, ABS with EBD and corner stability control. There are also ISOFIX child seat anchors, perimeter alarms, panic brake alerts, rear parking sensors and more.

The top-spec Nexon variants now include 6 airbags, an electronic stability program, and hill hold control. These advanced features considerably boost occupant safety. Add the sturdy body structure, and an SUV will be built like a tank.

Pricing and Variants

The Tata Nexon price ranges between ₹8.10 lakhs to ₹15.50 lakhs, ex-showroom. It includes four trim levels: XE, XM, XT, and XZ+. The base petrol variant starts at ₹8.10 lakhs, while the range-topping diesel automatic is priced at ₹15.50 lakhs.

The Tata Nexon’s on-road price varies from ₹9.07 lakhs to ₹18.19 lakhs, factoring in RTO and insurance costs. Tata offers plenty of customisation options through accessories packs if you wish to personalise your Nexon further.

Summing Up

The Tata Nexon is an excellent choice for those looking for a compact SUV without breaking the bank. It has a unique look, nice interiors, plenty of room, powerful engines, and modern technology. It’s also safe; even the basic models have many safety features. Plus, with over 300 dealerships, getting service and help is easy. Considering its price, no other small SUV offers such a cool design, features, safety, and performance as the Nexon.
