Jerod Mayo provides update on Patriots injured WR Kendrick Bourne

The Patriots have had a difficult time getting their wide receivers involved in the passing game, but that position group should be getting a boost at some point this season.

Wide receiver Kendrick Bourne, who tore his ACL late last October, didn’t practice this summer and began the season on the PUP list. Head coach Jerod Mayo was asked about Bourne ahead of Thursday night’s game against the Jets on 98.5 The Sports Hub.

“He’s done a good job, and he’s close,” Mayo said on the radio.

Bourne caught 37 passes for 406 yards with four touchdowns in eight games last season. He signed a three-year, $19.5 million contract with the Patriots this offseason.

Bourne will compete with Ja’Lynn Polk, K.J. Osborn, Tyquan Thornton, DeMario Douglas, Javon Baker and Kayshon Boutte for snaps when he returns. He should re-gain a starting role as long as he’s healthy.
