High School Football: Week 4 predictions

Mounds View (2-1) at Stillwater (2-1), 7 p.m.

An impressive victory over Forest Lake has Mounds View firmly planted in the Metro East subdistrict title conversation. The Mustangs can hang with high-level teams physically. But this subdistrict runs through Stillwater. And the Ponies have yet to show many cracks this fall. Our pick: Stillwater 21, Mounds View 14

East Ridge (1-2) vs. Woodbury (2-1), 7 p.m. at TCO Stadium in Eagan

A critical game in determining the pecking order in the middle of the Metro East subdistrict. Whichever crosstown rival can get its offense revved up earliest should have the advantage in this one. Our pick: East Ridge 22, Woodbury 20

North St. Paul (2-1) at South St. Paul (1-2), 7 p.m.

North St. Paul was 2-1 this time last year but fell 33-0 to South St. Paul and didn’t win another game. The Polars are a year older and more experienced and have a chance to prove the 2024 campaign is not the same story. But can the Polars stand up to South St. Paul’s ground game? Our pick: North St. Paul 28, South St. Paul 26

Simley (1-2) at Hill-Murray (2-1), 7 p.m.

A game that could go a long way toward determining section seeding. Simley entered the season confident in its talent but knowing that development had to take place. The Spartans seem to be improving with each week. Have they come far enough nearly midway through the regular season to slow down Hill-Murray’s balanced offense? Our pick: Simley 24, Hill-Murray 21

Holy Family (3-0) at St. Agnes (2-1), 7:30 p.m. at Concordia-St. Paul

Small-school powers with legitimate state tournament aspirations collide. St. Agnes is still banged up from its bout with Hill-Murray two weeks ago. That could prove to be the difference in this one. Our pick: Holy Family 30, St. Agnes 21
