Double shooting at Taunton mobile home leaves 17-year-old dead, 18-year-old injured

An overnight double shooting in Taunton has left a 17-year-old Brockton boy dead and an 18-year-old injured, according to authorities.

Taunton Police received a call after midnight of a person shot inside a mobile home, responding to the scene, 351 Lathrop St., around 12:25 a.m.

Emergency responders pronounced the victim, later identified as 17-year-old Brockton boy Khamitri Cole, at the scene around 12:45 a.m., Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn said in a statement Thursday morning.

An 18-year-old Holyoke man was also allegedly shot inside the home but was not on the scene when police responded, Quinn said. The victim reportedly drove himself to a hospital to be treated for injuries that authorities described as not life-threatening, he added.

Taunton Police and Massachusetts State Police detectives continued to investigate the homicide on Thursday, but authorities did not release any further details. Information on the suspect had yet to be released by late Thursday afternoon

Witnesses told WCVB that the shooting unfolded at a “late-night party” at the mobile home community which is divided into two sections, one for people ages 55 and older and the other for families, where the incident occurred.

“Crime is getting too much around here,” neighbor Phil Derosha told WCVB. “I am retired. I came here for peace and quiet, and now a shooting?”
