Police believe a shooting at a Burnsville park in which five teenagers were injured was targeted at some people in the basketball court area, the department said in a Thursday update.

No one has been arrested in last month’s case at Red Oak Park and the police department continues to ask people with information to come forward.

Some people on the basketball court were gang associates and police believe multiple people are responsible for the shooting, according to a police statement. Police collected more than 60 bullet casings, according to a search warrant affidavit.

While authorities have interviewed more than 50 people, police are asking people to come forward who were on the basketball court during the shooting and left the area before police arrived. It happened about 8:15 p.m. Aug. 30 at the park on River Hills Drive off Cliff Road.

“Some witnesses have proven reluctant to share details of the shooting or the shooters; other witnesses have assisted police in providing information relevant to the investigation,” police said in the update.

The five injured are males: a 16-year-old, 17-year-old, two 18-year-olds and a 19-year-old. Two were still hospitalized the week after the shooting. Police said Thursday that one victim remains in rehabilitation at the hospital.

The victims told officers “they did not have any ‘beef’ with anyone and there were no issues with anyone leading up to this incident,” the search warrant affidavit said.

The investigation is ongoing and includes state and federal law enforcement. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension processed dozens of potential pieces of evidence, according to police.

“Since this reckless shooting happened, our detectives and partner agencies have worked diligently to find those responsible and bring them to justice,” Police Chief Tanya Schwartz said in the statement. “… We know members of the public have additional information that could assist this investigation and we need them to come forward.”

Police are continuing to provide extra patrol in the Red Oak Park area. They’re also still asking anyone with information, including home surveillance video, to contact Burnsville Detective Mitch Carlson at 952-641-1156.
