Patriots adding two rookie defensive backs in roster reshuffling

The Patriots added two rookie defensive backs to their practice squad Monday and signed guard Michael Jordan to their 53-man roster.

Jordan has started the Patriots’ first two games at left guard. He was out of practice squad elevations and needed to be signed to the 53-man roster to start Thursday night’s game against the Jets.

The Patriots signed rookie cornerback D.J. James and rookie safety Mark Perry to their practice squad. James, a 2024 sixth-round pick out of Auburn, was cut by the Seahawks in August. Perry, an undrafted free agent out of TCU, spent the summer with the Dolphins before signing to the Texans’ practice squad in August. He was cut Sept. 10.

Linebacker Yvandy Rigby and safety A.J. Thomas were cut to make space on the practice squad. Rigby was signed to the practice squad earlier this month. Thomas spent most of the summer on the Patriots’ 90-man roster.

James and Perry both have good size and speed. James ran a 4.42-second 40-yard dash at 6-feet, 181 pounds at the NL Scouting Combine. Perry ran a 4.42-second 40-yard dash at 6-feet, 213 pounds at his pro day.

A spot on the 53-man roster opened up Saturday when offensive tackle Chukwuma Okorafor was placed on the exempt/left squad list.
