High School Football Roundup: Simley, Hastings, Roseville among teams finding first victory in Week 3
St. Thomas Academy 24, Cretin-Derham Hall 6: Chase Young ran in a touchdown and threw another to Finn Benz, while Todd Rogalski returned an interception for a score to move the Cadets to 2-1 on the campaign.
Izaak Johnson threw a late touchdown pass to Owen Prestegaard for the lone score for Cretin-Derham Hall (1-2).
Stillwater 24, East Ridge 6: All three of Stillwater’s touchdowns Friday came on the ground. The first two were via the legs of quarterback Nick Kinsey, who scored from a yard out on each touchdown. The final score came from running back Emilio Rosario-Matias, who went 50 yards for a score in the fourth quarter to put the game away.
Woodbury 28, White Bear Lake 13: Emmett Snuggerud was responsible for all four scores for Woodbury (2-1), throwing two touchdowns and plunging in for two more. Both 1-yard rushing scores came in a final frame in which the Royals tallied 21 points after leading 7-6 through three quarters.
Hastings 13, Mahtomedi 7: Zachary Shatek ran in a score from six yards out with 3 minutes, 20 seconds to play to break a tie and give the Raiders (1-2) their first win of the season.
Mahtomedi (1-2) took an early 7-0 lead on a 38-yard passing touchdown from Connor Finn to Joey Pipes.
Roseville 23, Burnsville 9: Roseville (1-2) secured its first win of the season thanks to the legs of Javon Minor. The running back ran 23 times Friday for 268 yards and two touchdowns.
Maple Grove 21, Centennial 14: One of the state’s top teams out-lasted the defending Class 6A champs as Charles Langama’s 21-yard rushing touchdown broke a 14-all tie early in the fourth to put the Crimson (3-0) up for good.
Caleb Melser had two rushing touchdowns for the Cougars (1-2).
Simley 33, Fridley 14: Christian Urbina threw two touchdowns, one of which went to Jerrod Jones, who also ran in a score for the Spartans (1-2).
