Expect extra enforcement during Minnesota Click It or Ticket campaign
Drivers and passengers will see some additional patrols on the roads starting Sunday as part of the Minnesota Department of Public Safety’s “Click It or Ticket” campaign, which aims to ensure that drivers, passengers and children buckle up on the roads.
The week-long campaign aims to raise awareness for the Toward Zero Deaths campaign with patrols working overtime to ensure that drivers and passengers are doing their part to stay safe, according to a Public Safety release. Minnesota law requires all drivers and passengers to wear seat belts or, for children, to use the correct car seat or booster seat.
Even though most Minnesotans are using seat belts, the Department of Safety still wants to make sure people are following the law.
According to the Minnesota Office of Traffic Safety, around 94.7% of Minnesotans use seat belts while in a vehicle.
Young adults have been contributing to a recent increase in compliance, according to the Office of Traffic Safety, with 93.6% of young adults choosing to wear seat belts in a 2024 observational survey, a 10-year high.
“It’s so simple to take two seconds to buckle up, and you may not get a second chance in a crash,” Mike Hanson, director of the Office of Traffic Safety, said in a news release.
