High School Football Roundup: Forest Lake edges East Ridge in back-and-forth thriller
Forest Lake 22, East Ridge 18: Cedric Tomes connected with Jesse Borrego on a 21-yard touchdown through the air to put the Raptors (1-1) up 18-15 with five minutes to play Friday in Forest Lake.
Just 37 seconds later, Mack Jurkovich ran 65 yards to pay dirt to put the Rangers (1-1) back in front for good.
Connor Johnson had two rushing touchdowns in the first half for Forest Lake.
Two Rivers 35, Hastings 14: Drew Altavilla ran in a score and threw for three more — two of which went to Johnny Laugerman — as Two Rivers (2-0) picked up a key Class 5A, Section 3 victory.
Carter Herman-O’Brien had a 60-yard interception return for a score for Hastings (0-2).
Waconia 35, St. Thomas Academy 7: Kaden Herman threw a pair of first quarter touchdown passes to Owen Hiltner and Nickolas Theis ran in a pair of scores as Waconia (2-0) surprised the Cadets.
Dominic Baez’s 27-yard rushing touchdown was the lone score for St. Thomas Academy (1-1).
Blaine 23, Centennial 13: Blaine moved to 2-0 by knocking off the defending Class 6A state champions as Zach Larson ran in a pair of scores, including one with four minutes to play that effectively iced the ordeal.
Isaac Belinske-Strauss threw a pair of touchdowns for the Cougars (1-1).
Edina 35, Eden Prairie 14: Mason West tossed four scoring strikes to Meyer Swinney as the defending Class 6A runner-up routed the Eagles in a west metro showdown.
Lakeville South 50, Farmington 29: A week after its offense sputtered in a loss to Wayzata, the Cougars (1-1) found traction Friday in the form of four Bo Bokman rushing touchdowns.
All seven of Lakeville South’s scores came via the ground.
Eastview 9, Roseville 6: Trailing by three in the final frame, Quinn Curry threw a 39-yard touchdown pass to Kaleb Ngwendson to give the Lightning (1-1) their first win of the year.
Alejandro Ramos kicked a couple first-half field goals for Roseville (1-1).
