DIV. 3-4 OVERVIEW

Milton had been close to capturing its first state title.

Last year, the Wildcats finally kicked the door in, winning the Div. 3 crown in impressive fashion as they avenged a regular season loss to Bay State Conference foe Walpole. Milton should still be in the hunt as wide receiver Ronan Sammon leads a good group of returnees.

As usual, the Hockomock League is going to have a say in the proceedings. North Attleboro has a solid nucleus back, while Milford and Mansfield aren’t going anywhere any time soon.

Div. 3 finalist Walpole will rely on the golden arm of All-Scholastic quarterback Noah MacKenzie, while Dartmouth has a star signal-caller of its own in Jackson Hart to go along with linebacker Ray Gramlich and wide receiver Markus Andrews.

Heading north, watch for Billerica. Much like Milton, the Indians have been inching closer to the title in recent years. This team is fully capable of making noise in November as they return several MVC All-Stars led by star lineman Dan Moore, quarterback Steven Gentile and running back Judd Dorival.

In Div. 4, until they prove otherwise, it’s always wise to pencil in Duxbury as a force to be reckoned with. The Dragons rolled to a Div. 4 state title last year, putting up 62 points in the championship contest.

The team they did it to was Patriot League rival Scituate. The Sailors aren’t going away anytime soon as wide receiver Lawson Foley is as good as it gets, while Willy Robinson is a quality running back.

Tewksbury is always well-coached and never beats itself, while Burlington made great strides last year and are clearly trending in the right direction. Standout running back Max Dresens is one of several solid returnees for Wayland.

DANDY DOZEN FOR DIV. 3-4

Ryan Bannon, Sr., LB, 6-3, 225, North Attleboro: One of the most productive linebackers around, Bannon amassed 109 tackles (12 for losses) to go along with a pair of interceptions and two forced fumbles.

Max Dresens, Sr., RB, 6-2, 210, Wayland: Bucknell-bound running back ran for more 1,700 yards last season.

Lawson Foley, Sr., WR/DB, 6-3, 210, Scituate: Foley caught 48 passes for 867 yards and 11 touchdowns, while adding 56 tackles and two interceptions.

Chase Frisoli, Sr., QB, 6-3, 195, North Attleboro: Comes off a campaign where he threw for nearly 1,900 yards and 15 touchdowns.

Jackson Hart, Sr., QB, 6-0, 180, Dartmouth: Hart threw for 963 yards and 16 touchdowns last year, while adding 737 yards and 10 more scores.

Tyren Hoeun, Jr., RB, 5-10, 200, Lynn Classical: Missed most of last year with an injury after an impressive freshman debut so we’re expecting big things from Hoeun this season.

Trevor Jones, Sr., QB, 6-0, 190, Duxbury: Jones did a terrific job in running the Dragons’ high-powered offense to a Div. 4 state title.

Bradford Leonard, Sr., LS, 5-10, 220, Plymouth South: Ranked as one of the top long snappers in the area.

Noah MacKenzie, Sr., QB, 6-4, 195, Walpole: MacKenzie completed 160-of-273 passes for 3,013 yards and 30 touchdowns, while adding 260 yards and six scores in leading Walpole to the Div. 3 state finals.

Dan Moore, Sr., OL, 6-3, 280, Billerica: Two-time all-MVC selection has been one of the keys behind his team’s successful running game in recent years.

Andrew Rivera, Sr., LB, 6-3, 210, Milford: Played a large part in Milford’s solid defense as he registered 13 sacks as a junior.

Ronan Sammon, Jr., WR, 5-11, 180, Milton: Sammon played a large part in leading the Wildcats to the Div. 3 state title as he caught 72 passes for 1,058 yards and 14 touchdowns.
