Red Sox lineups: Rafael Devers out of the lineup for second straight game

Rafael Devers is out of the Red Sox lineup for the second straight day, but manager Alex Cora said the All-Star third baseman shouldn’t miss much more time.

“He’s doing ok, just another day,” Cora said. “Hopefully tomorrow, if not Friday.”

Devers has been battling a shoulder injury for most of the season, but the issue generally hasn’t kept Devers off the field. The 27-year-old ranks third on the team with 118 games played and has remained highly productive, batting .290 with 28 home runs, 80 RBI and a .940 OPS. Still, Cora said the injury has affected Devers so they want to be proactive, that way it doesn’t get worse and potentially limit his availability down the stretch.

Romy Gonzalez will start at third base in Devers’ place, and Triston Casas will bat clean-up. Brayan Bello (11-6, 4.95) is scheduled to start for Boston against Toronto’s Chris Bassitt (9-12, 4.41).
