“It was clear, at least to me, that Slye was the — he had a better camp,” Mayo said Wednesday. “It’s very easy with kickers. It’s a lot easier with kickers than it is for offensive linemen. It’s like, ‘OK, 95%, 88%.’ It was very easy from that regard.”
Slye went about his usual business on Tuesday during roster cuts, going to Gillette Stadium for treatment and a workout. Afte the saw reports that Ryland had been cut, he met with coaches who told him he had won the competition.
“From my perspective, it was reflecting on how I think I did,” Slye said. When I felt like a lot of the pressure situations were the heaviest, when Coach was really trying to put a spotlight on the competition, I felt like I responded in those moments.”
Slye then reached out to his wife and family to tell them the good news.
