Back to school: Students to return to classes over coming weeks

With the end of summer rapidly approaching, Boston students are gearing back up to pack up their backpacks, finish off summer reading and return to school.

Across Massachusetts, kids in different districts are flocking back into the classrooms as early as Aug. 26  while others return as late as Sept. 12.

In Boston Public Schools, students from grade 1 to 12 will head back to classes for the first day of the 2024-25 school year on Thursday, Sept. 5. Pre-K and Kindergarten students will file in for their first day on Monday, Sept. 9.

Two Boston schools, Up Academy Dorchester and Holland will return early. Students at the college-preparatory schools will head back on Thursday, Aug. 29.

Boston teachers and paraprofessionals will report to work days ahead of kids on Tuesday, Sept. 3.

BPS recommends families download the ParentSquare app to control how to receive messages and communications from schools and the new Zum app or call the Transportation Hotline at 617-635-9520 to receive information about bus transportation.

More information on back to school preparation can be found on the BPS website Back to School page.
