An Oxford man accused of being drunk when and causing a crash that killed a 10-year-old boy Saturday night is scheduled to be arraigned in Wrentham District Court Monday morning, Norfolk District Attorney Michael Morrissey said.

Michael Escoles, 42, faces charges of motor vehicle manslaughter, OUI, larceny of a motor vehicle and other associated charges, officials said. Escolas allegedly stole a Jeep Cherokee belonging to a Vermont couple parked outside of Gillette Stadium for the Kenny Chesney concert.

Police said the Jeep struck a family of six in a Nissan Altima registered in Rhode Island while it was stopped at the traffic light near an intersection of Route 1 and Route 495 around 8:30 p.m.

Escolas and the family were all transported to local hospitals. A 10-year-old child in the Nissan did not survive, police said.

The initial crash was followed by crashes involving three other cars at the intersection. No individuals in those other cars required ambulance transportation.

According to Acting Plainville Fire Chief Robert Skinner, seven ambulances aided in treating those injured. Morrissey thanked the entities helping during the incident and expressed his condolences to the family.

“Dealing with this chaotic scene and evacuating seven people to area hospitals required the help and participation of many partner agencies,” he said. “I offer my thanks to all who responded, and my sincere condolences to the family who lost their son.”

Escolas remains in custody in lieu of $25,000 cash bail, Morrissey said. The investigation remains ongoing and officials did not have any further information immediately available.
