Taylor Swiffer? Sweep Dogg? Help name Woodbury’s new street sweeper
Last year, officials from Woodbury, the South Washington Watershed District and the Ramsey-Washington Metro Watershed District held a contest to name a street sweeper. Obi-Wan Cleanobi now helps clean the streets and keeps debris, dirt, leaves and grass clippings from entering the city’s wetlands and lakes.
This fall, there’s a new street sweeper joining the city’s public works department, and the online naming contest is back. Residents have until Labor Day to submit a name for the new sweeper.
Thirty-five entries had been submitted as of Friday, including Taylor Swiffer, Sweep Caroline, Sweep Dogg, Luke Stormwater and Darth Sweeper, said Jason Egerstrom, a spokesman for the city.
Last year’s finalists were: Sweep Caroline, Meryl Sweep, Les Algae, Lil Bo Sweep, Taylor Swept, Sweepachu and Ope! Let me Sweep Past Ya, he said.
City staff will review all name submissions, select the best name ideas, and invite residents to vote on their favorites. The winning entry will be featured on the new street sweeper, Egerstrom said.
Here’s the fine print: One submittal per household. Submission cannot be longer than 30 characters including letters, symbols, and spaces. No vulgar, profane, or inappropriate language allowed. Entries including references to political phrases, slogans, or figures will not be considered.
The public will be invited to vote for the final contenders in September.
