Massachusetts men accused of stealing $500K in jewelry at gunpoint, torching car in Maine
Three men are accused of stealing half a million in jewelry and precious metals from a Lawrence jewelry store at gunpoint last December before fleeing the scene and torching a rental car in a Maine field.
A criminal complaint was unsealed this week charging the three men — Eric “Maniactico” Rosario, 26; Rosnel Polanco, 26; and Robert “Piccarine” Santana, 29, all of Lawrence – with one count each of conspiracy to interfere with commerce by robbery.
The three defendants will appear in federal court in Boston at a later date, according to Acting U.S. Attorney for Massachusetts Joshua Levy.
Authorities arrested Santana on Wednesday, with Rosario and Polanco previously taken into custody on related state charges.
The dramatic scene, according to charging documents, played out on Dec. 15, 2023, when the three men allegedly entered a Lawrence jewelry store with firearms and robbed “numerous employees of the store” of their jewelry and cell phones, a release from Levy’s office states.
“The defendants then allegedly pointed firearms at the victims’ heads and pressed the firearms to their backs,” the release states, “as they brought the victim employees downstairs to the basement where the jewelry store’s office and safes were located.”
There, the defendants are accused of hauling in roughly $500,000 in “jewelry and other precious metals” after they forced the storeowner to open the safes, with one opening and the other remaining shut.
With jewelry and precious metals in hand, the three men allegedly “fled the scene in a rented Nissan Altima that was later found burned and torched in a field in Maine the following day.”
Local and federal agencies received assistance from Maine authorities during the investigation.
A charge of conspiracy to interfere with commerce by robbery provides for a sentence of up to 20 years in prison, up to three years of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000.
