As Porsche has always dominated consumers in the under 40 age bracket, in 2002 they expanded their horizons with the release of the Cayenne, their first SUV to the market. 22 years later, the cayenne is still going strong and is as stout as ever. Our Montego Blue metallic tester offered a rare base model powertrain review offering exactly what entry level is designed for.

Powered by the ever-popular 3.0-liter turbocharged V6, we noticed 348 horsepower and 368 lb-ft of torque. An 8-speed automatic transmission was also present. This powertrain offered a zero-sixty time of 5.4 seconds with a top speed of 154 mph. The Cayenne offered a 7,700 lbs towing capacity when properly equipped. On the upper model Cayenne’s a 4.)L Twin-Turbo V8 engine is standard which produces 468 horsepower and 442 lb-ft of torque making this an even more fun rocket.

The Cayenne delivers great space, looks and comfort. We notice a nicely done refresh in 2023 for the interior aesthetics, and some similar to the VW Atlas. As the Cayenne shares a chassis with the VW Atlas, Audi Q7 and other vehicles in the large fleet, we notice similarities in suspension and handling, while obviously getting the upgrades that all Porsche have and deserve.

Our tester was optioned up with the Premium package including a Bose Surround sound system, ambient lighting, head rear seats, panoramic sunroof and adaptive cruise control, which was a modest $3,590 more. Other items on our tester included, Mojave Beige leather interior, rear axle steering, adaptive air suspension, cooled front seats, power front memory seats and the Sport Chrono Package.

Porsche is no secret to Grasso’s Garage and has historically blown us away by their instant power, looks and great appeal to onlookers. While our Cayenne was a base model, our test was more focused on comfort, usability and space, and the Cayenne delivered nicely. With just under an $80K base price, the Cayenne certainly delivers to upscale consumers who are looking to be separate from the rest, while not having that flashy appeal that comes with the brand.
