Battenfeld: Democrats celebrate ‘joy’ ticket while voters feeling fear and pain
Out of touch Democrats and Hollywood elite are celebrating uplifting “joy” this week in Chicago while worried voters back in Massachusetts are feeling fear and pain from crime, high prices, turmoil in the Middle East and a broken border.
There’s no joy when you go to Market Basket and fork over $100 for a small bag of groceries.
There’s no joy when you’re trying to enjoy a peaceful day at Franklin Park and shootings break out.
There’s no joy in waiting for the MBTA bus or train and figuring out how you’ll explain to your boss when you show up late for work.
Or watch ambulances and trucks struggle to get through streets clogged with bike lanes.
And there’s no joy going to jammed emergency rooms with long waits for basic treatment.
Happiness is a hard sell this election year. Seven in 10 Americans feel the country is headed in the wrong direction.
Not sure people in the country are feeling particularly joyful; it’s why Trump continues to do well despite the attacks against him.
Democrats, meanwhile, are drinking the happy juice in Chicago. They can have a DJ play dance music all night but that won’t cover up the pain of out-of-control immigration and inflation due to Biden-Harris policies.
Joy is reserved for the well-heeled elite or powerful pols – which there is plenty of in Chicago at the DNC.
Boston Mayor Michelle Wu is off partying for a week while residents deal with disturbing acts of violence at Franklin Park and Downtown Crossing. It’s more important for her to be among the elite at the DNC than to be at the city she’s supposed to be serving.
Gov. Maura Healey is preparing for her big DNC speech and getting selfies with Nancy Pelosi like she’s posing with Mother Teresa while the state budget swells with the out-of-control cost of hosting migrants and the homeless.
The Democratic Convention has been a complete Hollywood production but in fact it’s been a showcase for the elite – the same tired faces we see every four years.
This is exactly what Donald Trump ran against and won in 2016. The Hollywood and media elite are swooning over the Democratic ticket while voters have a different outlook.

The party has coalesced around Kamala Harris and Tim Walz because it’s all they’ve got. Democrats are suddenly painting themselves as change agents only because they know that’s what voters want.
They may be able to shove Joe Biden to the background but voters aren’t stupid – they know she’s a big part of the Biden-Harris administration.
