Business People: TKDA announces new leadership roles

Engineering and architecture company TKDA announced Chief Operating Officer Jeffrey (Jeff) Lipovetz as the company’s next chief executive officer. He succeeds Tom Stoneburner, who will remain chairman of TKDA’s board of directors until his retirement in 2025. The company also announced Andrew (Andy) Wagstrom, vice president of TKDA’s rail division, has been promoted to COO. The changes take place on Aug. 25. TKDA recently announced plans to move its corporate offices from St. Paul to Bloomington.
ADVERTISING/PUBLIC RELATIONS
Mercedes McFarland Jackson has joined the board of directors at The BrandLab, a Minneapolis nonprofit developer of marketing and advertising talent focused on communities of color and other underserved populations. Jackson is an attorney at Fredrikson, which announced the appointment.
AIRPORTS
The Metropolitan Airports Commission announced it has promoted Julie Lynn York to director of strategic marketing and communications. York most recently served as MAC’s assistant director of marketing and passenger engagement and previously held leadership roles at Brown-Forman Beverages, Land O’Lakes and several years running her own integrated marketing business. The MAC owns and operates Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport and six suburban reliever airports in the Twin Cities.
BEER
Dual Citizen Brewing Co., St. Paul, announced the appointment of Ben Hebel as director of production and head brewer, effective Aug. 19. Hebel previously worked at Indeed Brewing Co. and Bald Man Brewing, both based in the Twin Cities area.
ENTERTAINMENT
Children’s Theatre Company, a Minneapolis-based live performance venue focused on young audiences, announced the election of Mary Loeffelholz as chair of the board of directors. Loeffelholz is co-proprietor, with her husband, of Dampfwerk Distillery, St. Louis Park. Also elected as board officers: Co-Vice Chairs Steven J. Thompson, NorthStar Healthcare Advisors, and John W. Geelan, Piper Sandler; Secretary Adebisi A. Wilson, Ward & Wilson, and Treasurer Kashi Yoshikawa, Wells Fargo.
HEALTH CARE
Hennepin Healthcare, a subsidiary corporation of Hennepin County, announced that Dr. Thomas Wyatt was appointed chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine. Wyatt completed his Emergency Medicine Residency at Hennepin County Medical Center in 2003 and began serving as a faculty emergency medicine physician in 2011. He is also an associate professor of emergency medicine at the University of Minnesota Medical School. Hennepin Healthcare owns and operates HCMC and affiliated facilities in Hennepin County.

Minnesota 6th District U.S. Rep. Tom Emmer announced he has received the Charles Dick Medal of Merit, presented by the National Guard Association of the United States, for his support of the Minnesota National Guard. … The Autism Society of Minnesota announced Joyner Emerick as the second recipient of the Jean Bender Changemaker Award. Emerick is an AuSM board member and the first openly autistic member on the school board of Minneapolis Public Schools.

Maslon, Minneapolis, announced the addition of attorney Sarah Shuler Keane to the firm’s Estate Planning Group. … Fredrikson, Minneapolis, announced it has been honored with a Champions of Justice Award by Legal Services Corp., honoring the work of government relations professionals Andy Pomroy, Kevin Goodno and Jeff Hayden. Legal Services Corp. is a national legal aid organization focused on low-income communities. … The National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers announced that Andrew S. Birrell has been named president-elect. Birrell is senior partner of Birrell Law Firm, Minneapolis, and is a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and the American Board of Criminal Lawyers.

Minneapolis ad agency Yamamoto is celebrating 45 years in business. It was founded in 1979 by the late Peter Seitz, Hideki Yamamoto and the late Miranda Moss.
RETAIL
Target Corp., Minneapolis, announced that Amy Tu has been named chief legal and compliance officer and corporate secretary effective Aug. 25. She succeeds Don Liu, who announced his upcoming retirement and will transition to a strategic advisory role. Tu has held senior legal roles at Walmart, The Gap and Boeing.
