Impressive Triple-A debut for Andrew Morris, but Saints lose to Indians

Andrew Morris had his Triple-A debut for the Saints Tuesday night on the road in Indianapolis, but the Indians nabbed the 5-4 win with a 4-run seventh.

Morris, a 2022 4th-round draft pick, allowed three base runners over the first six innings. He allowed just one run, a solo homer in the second by the Indians’ Bill McKinney that gave them a 1-0 lead.

The Saints answered in the fourth. Michael Helman got a single to left and Edouard Julien walked, extending his on base streak to 37. Jair Camargo’s double to center got a run, then Diego Castillo’s sacrifice fly gave the Saints the 2-1 lead. Wynton Bernard grounded a single, Patrick Winkel added an RBI ground out and the Saints doubled their lead.

With runners at the corners, DaShawn Keirsey Jr.’s single in the fifth gave the Saints their last run of the game.

Reliever Jeff Brigham couldn’t hold on to what Morris had started, and the Indians’ Billy Cook hit a grand slam in the seventh, ending the scoring and the Saints’ hopes.

The Saints play the Indians at their Victory Field again today at 12:35 p.m.
