‘Nice’ sunny weather in Boston forecast, ‘dangerous rip currents’ may threaten towards weekend

The week ahead in Boston looks to be clear and sunny, according to weather forecasts, but a tropical storm building down south may bring dangerous beach conditions closing in on the next weekend.

“It’s looking like a pretty nice week, said National Weather Service meteorologist Kevin Pederson. “We’re looking at high temperatures in the Boston area sitting right around 80, 81 degrees all week, and dew points are going to be a much more comfortable range than they previously were earlier this summer.”

The greater Boston area will see temperatures climb a little from the cold front that swept through last week, with highs in the low 80 degrees through the end of the week. The region will likely be cooled by calm winds throughout the week, according to NWS forecasts.

Dew points will be around the upper 50s and low 60s, Pederson said, meaning humidity will remain generally lower than the height of the summer.

Rain chance are “minimal,” the meteorologist said, with a chance of “a shower or two” Monday afternoon. Low chances for rain are also present again on Thursday.

“But other than that, it should be nice weather for the work week ahead,” Pederson said.

A tropical rainstorm building around the Caribbean may have some impact on the coast of the Northeast later in the week, according to AccuWeather forecasts.

The storm, likely to be felt in Puerto Rico and islands in the Caribbean early in the week before moving north in towards Bermuda and the U.S. East coast, “could become the second major hurricane of the season by the end of this week.”

“While the chance of direct impacts to the Northeast U.S. appears low at this time, this steering pattern has a lot of factors involved,” said AccuWeather Lead Hurricane Expert Alex DaSilva. “No one along the East coast should let their guard down.”

Tropical Storm Debby strengthens into a Category 1 hurricane as it heads toward Florida

Residents and businesses along the East coast are encouraged to “closely monitor” the forecast as the storm may intensify and be prepared for beach hazards, according to an AccuWeather release.

The Southeast Atlantic coast may experience “rough surf and dangerous rip currents” towards the end of the week, DaSilva said. The risk is expected to expand to the mid-Atlantic and Northeast beaches during the weekend.

“We could see very dangerous rip currents, even though the storm will be hundreds of miles out to sea and the weather may look fine,” DaSilva said. “Anyone heading to East coast beaches this week needs to be aware and know the warning signs. It’s best to stay in areas where lifeguards are on duty.”
