Halunen Law, Minneapolis, announced that attorney Joshua (Josh) Newville has joined the firm to lead its Employment Litigation Group. Newville is an adjunct law professor at the University of Minnesota, and produces an investigative podcast about missing persons.

U.S. Bancorp, Minneapolis, announced that Aleem Gillani has been elected to the company’s board of directors. Gillani served as chief financial officer of SunTrust Banks before retiring in 2018.

Medica, a Minnetonka-based health insurer, announced that Dr. Ugwuji Maduekwe has joined the board of directors. Maduekwe is an associate professor of surgery and director of regional therapies and practicing surgical oncologist at the Medical College of Wisconsin, based in Milwaukee. She also serves as associate dean and deputy director for the Advancing a Healthier Wisconsin endowment.

Fredrikson, Minneapolis, announced the addition of attorney Aly Brandvold as senior associate in its Mergers & Acquisitions, Private Equity and Corporate Governance groups. … Larkin Hoffman, Minneapolis, announced the additions of Matthew Resch in the Corporate and Finance group; Andrew Peterson, Estate Planning and Probate practice; and Victoria Callander to the Real Estate Litigation team.

Daikin Applied, a Plymouth-based commercial and industrial HVAC equipment manufacturer, announced the appointment of Jeff Shusta as vice president of Corporate Development and Ashish Srivastava, vice president of Digital and Information Technology. Shusta comes from 3M, where he spent 13 years in various leadership roles; Srivastava served as the IT and digital transformation leader for a business unit of a global health care technology company.

Nyajuok Y. Deng has been elected to the board of directors at EMERGE, a Minneapolis-based workforce and community development organization, serving a two-year term. EMERGE has centers in North Minneapolis and Cedar-Riverside and the northern suburbs. Deng is an attorney at Fredrikson, which announced the appointment.

International furniture retailer IKEA Minneapolis announced the opening of a pop-up shopping location at The Shoppes at Arbor Lakes outdoor mall in Maple Grove. … Gray Fox Coffee has opened a location in the Dayton’s Project, located at 700 Nicollet Mall, Minneapolis, in the space formerly occupied by the Dayton’s, Marshall Field’s and Macy’s department store chains. The announcement was made by Transwestern Real Estate Services, leasing agent for the project, which is owned by 601W Cos. It is Gray Fox Coffee’s fourth location. … National retailer Pet Supplies Plus is opening a store at 15788 88th Street N.E., Otsego. The franchise owner is St. Cloud-based grocery chain Coborn’s Inc., which made the announcement.
