23-year-old Taunton woman dies in drowning incident in Bunk Pond

A 23-year-old woman died from drowning in Bunk Pond along the border of Raynham and Taunton on Saturday afternoon, the Bristol County DA reported Sunday.

Around 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Taunton Police and Fire responded to reports of a possible drowning at the pond, the DA said in a statement. At the water, friends of the victim spoke to responders leading to a search through the pond.

Elfreda Nenen Yovonie, of Taunton, was found dead and recovered just after 7 p.m. Saturday night by North Bristol County and SEMLEC Dive Teams.

Investigators stated they do not believe the drowning is suspicious at this time on Sunday afternoon. Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the district attorney’s office will continue to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident, the DA’s office said.
