1 dead after Farmington house fire

One person is dead after a house fire in Farmington late Monday night.

Firefighters were called to the split-level home in the 5300 block of Upper 182nd Street West at 10:52 p.m. and found the basement on fire. They conducted a fire attack and primary search and discovered the victim dead in the basement, said Farmington Fire Chief Matt Price. The victim’s identity will be released by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office.

No one else in the home when the fire broke out, Price said.

The fire, which remains under investigation, was contained to the basement and spread up a side of the home before being extinguished, Price said.

It’s been just over 10 years since Farmington had a fatal fire, Price said. A 69-year-old woman died of burns and smoke inhalation from the fire that broke out in a bedroom of her home in the 5700 block of Upper 182nd Street West, a half-mile from Monday night’s fire, on June 15, 2014. Fire officials determined smoking in bed caused the blaze.
