A large section Green Line B Branch will remain closed through Sunday, Aug. 11, for repairs to eliminate speed restrictions on the track.

The branch shut down between Boston College and Babcock Street on Aug. 2 for a 10-day repair project. The line will be replaced with free, accessible shuttle buses through the closure.

The closure is part of the Track Improvement Program, which is planned to eliminate 191 speed restrictions and bring “all tracks into a five-year state of good repair by the end of 2024,” according to the MBTA. The program includes work on the Red, Orange, Green, and Blue lines.

“Following this service suspension, riders will experience a safer, more reliable ride on the B branch,” the MBTA said in statement.

Crews are working near Warren, Allston, and Griggs Street stops to complete track replacement work, including “removal of old asphalt, ballast, ties, and rail; the installation of new track; repaving; and new paint in the area,” the T said. The work will remove eight speed restrictions along the line.

During the closure, workers will also install accessibility improvements and rail replacement between Sutherland Road and Chiswick Road stops and intersection safety improvements near the Boston College stop, the MBTA said. The intersection improvements include, marking to encourage cars not to idle on the tracks.
