Fringe review: Among standup routines, ‘Least Likely to Succeed’ succeeds better than most
Worth Considering
Tristan Miller’s “Least Likely to Succeed: Tales from a Midwestern Homeschooler” is, basically, a standup comedy routine, but this young New Yorker wields a razor wit as he ruminates on the education he received at home in Rochester, Minn., before landing in New Zealand for some enjoyable cultural comparisons and contrasts. Miller is a very entertaining commentator (especially when taking the audience to church), but he could use a little more confidence in his often very strong material: He has a very funny way of presenting familiar Midwestern tendencies, as if through the eyes of a clever cultural anthropologist.
Presented by Tristan Miller at Bryant Lake Bowl; 8:30 p.m. Aug. 4, 10 p.m. Aug. 5, 7 p.m. Aug. 9, 5:30 p.m. Aug. 11
