The Minnesota State Bar Association announced the appointment of Samuel Edmunds as president. Edmunds is a partner in the Eagan firm of Sieben Edmunds Miller; the MSBA Board of Governors are: President-Elect Thomas R. Pack, Greenberg Traurig; Treasurer Kenya Bodden, Amazon; and Secretary Nicole Kettwick, Brandt Kettwick Defense.
FINANCIAL SERVICES
Nepsis, a Minneapolis-based national financial adviser and investment management firm, announced the appointment of Malia Haskins as the firm’s inaugural vice president of estate planning. Haskins comes to Nepsis from RBC Wealth Management, where she most recently was vice president, wealth strategist.
GOVERNMENT
The City of Minneapolis announced it has named Michelle Phillips director of its Civil Rights Department. Phillips previously served as the first inspector general for the City of Oakland, Calif. … The State of Minnesota announced that Secretary of State Steve Simon was named president of the National Association of Secretaries of State.
HEALTH CARE
Allina Health, a Minneapolis-based metrowide chain of hospitals and clinics, announced it has named Dr. Indy Lane vice president of Women’s Health. Lane previously worked at Community Health Network in Indianapolis, where she served as physician executive of the women’s service line and an obstetrician-gynecologist.
HONORS
The Metropolitan Airports Commission announced that Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport was named the No. 1 U.S. airport in the 2024 Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards. The MAC owns and operates MSP and six suburban reliever airports in the Twin Cities.
LAW
Larkin Hoffman, Minneapolis, announced that Nora Klaphake has joined as director of Administration and Talent. Prior to joining Larkin Hoffman, she founded a legal consulting and search firm, led the recruiting and professional development team at the Maslon law firm, and served as chief of staff at two academic institutions, the University of Minnesota Law School and Hamilton College. … Minneapolis personal injury lawyer Cory Whalen has completed the Civil Mediation Skills training course as certified by the Minnesota State Supreme Court and now qualifies as a “Neutral” under Rule 114 of the General Rules of Practice and can provide alternative dispute-resolution services to attorneys and others in the legal community. Whalen is a partner with the law firm of SiebenCarey, which made the announcement. … The International Association of Defense Counsel announced that Charles E. Jones, a shareholder at Moss & Barnett in Minneapolis, has accepted an invitation to join the IADC. Jones is co-chair of Moss & Barnett’s Professional Liability team.

St. Cloud Window, a Sauk Rapids-based provider of windows and doors for residential and commercial use, announced the return and promotion of Scott Batty to regional sales manager. Before rejoining St. Cloud Window, Batty was a sales manager at National Window.

Fastenal, a Winona, Minn.-based tool and parts supplier to industry, announced it has appointed Jeff Watts president and chief sales officer, effective Aug. 1. Watts succeeds Dan Florness, who will continue to serve as Fastenal’s CEO and as a member of the board. Watts is a 28-year company veteran.

When I Work, a Minneapolis-based provider of employee time-keeping software and services for business, announced the appointment of Melissa Leffler as chief technology officer. Leffler most recently was senior vice president at Drift, an AI-powered buyer engagement platform.
