Worth Considering

Max Besner’s one-man show, “A Strong Hand and an Outstretched Arm,” appeals to its audience through a sense of relatability and coming-of-age clichés, with a Jewish twist. Without any groundbreaking realizations, Besner uses anecdotes to emphasize the “immense capacity and capabilities” each individual possesses. His reading is reminiscent of college commencement speeches that earn chuckles and audience engagement, and his storytelling capabilities are heightened by a mixture of honest emotions and comedic moments breaking through. In cheesy TED Talk-esque fashion, the performer challenges the audience to self-reflect and live every moment with a strong hand and an outstretched arm.
