Fringe review: ‘5 x 5’ shows all that’s wonderful about Transatlantic Love Affair

Must see

Welcome back, Transatlantic Love Affair! The local troupe first found an audience with its company-generated Fringe shows, eventually becoming a resident company at Illusion Theater. Its unique presentation style asks each actor to be characters, scenery, props and sound-effect-creators. For “5 x 5,” the troupe’s first Fringe in nine years, it offers an ideal distillation of its marvelously imaginative manner of making theater. The cast of five spins five absorbing stories while confined within a 5-by-5-foot square at center stage, doing delightful and often hilarious things with a story from Camelot, “Macbeth,” “Nosferatu,” “Jurassic Park” and a bittersweet Mexican folk tale.

Presented by Transatlantic Love Affair at Open Eye Theatre; 5:30 p.m. Aug. 4, 10 p.m. Aug. 5, 8:30 p.m. Aug. 8, 2:30 p.m. Aug. 10
