AC Cars Unveils the New AC Cobra GT Coupe, A Modern Nod to a Racing Legacy

AC Cars, the UK’s oldest active vehicle manufacturer, has revealed the first images of the stunning new AC Cobra GT Coupe. This model marks the debut of an official AC Cobra coupe, built on an enhanced version of the existing AC Cobra GT Roadster platform. Drawing deeply from the company’s rich racing heritage, the new coupe is set to deliver a driving experience that’s both nostalgic and cutting-edge.

Inspired by AC’s historic victories in motorsport, including the Monte Carlo Rally and the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the AC Cobra GT Coupe incorporates numerous enhancements derived from these triumphs. This new model merges the unmistakable AC Cobra design with a contemporary coupe profile, creating a unique addition to the company’s expanding lineup. The GT Coupe retains key elements from the Roadster but takes cues from the legendary AC A98 coupe that competed at Le Mans in 1964.

Production of the AC Cobra GT Coupe will take place at AC Cars’ UK facilities, featuring an advanced aluminium chassis and a refined carbon-fibre body. The launch includes the extreme Clubsport Edition, limited to just 99 units and powered by a formidable 799bhp V8 engine. These exclusive cars will be delivered to customers starting at the end of 2025.

Following the Clubsport Edition, a series production coupe will be available, offering either a naturally aspirated 450bhp V8 or a supercharged 720bhp option. Priced from £325,000 plus taxes, reservations for both the GT Coupe and the Clubsport Edition are now open at ac.cars.

David Conza, CEO of AC Cars, expressed his pride in the new model: “The reveal of the AC Cobra GT Coupe is a proud moment for us, and the story of a road-going AC Cobra coupe is one years in the making. To have been able to combine the timeless AC Cobra design into a car using the latest design and construction techniques breaks new ground for AC Cars. This means the limited Clubsport Edition will provide an incredible, racing car-like experience on either the road or the track.”

Despite the iconic status of the AC Cobra, the original car was only ever produced as a roadster. The new GT Coupe, therefore, represents a significant milestone for AC Cars. It features the modern AC Cobra GT Roadster’s signature shoulder line while drawing significant inspiration from the one-off AC A98 coupe. This historic race car introduced the distinctive Kammtail rear design, which reduces drag and boosts high-speed performance.

The new AC Cobra GT Coupe will house a powerful engine with up to 450bhp for the standard model and an impressive 799bhp for the limited Clubsport Edition. The lightweight construction, exceptional torsional rigidity, and advanced chassis design ensure a driving experience like no other. The coupe maintains the same dimensions as the roadster, with a 2570mm wheelbase, 4225mm length, and 1980mm width, achieving a near-perfect 50:50 weight distribution.

Honoring the legacy of speed and performance that Carroll Shelby instilled in the Cobra, the AC Cobra GT Coupe is a contemporary tribute to a storied past, blending classic design with modern engineering to offer a truly unique driving experience.
