Red Sox lineup: James Paxton debuts (again)
It’s fitting that the starting pitcher for Boston on MLB trade deadline day will be a new acquisition.
Or rather, reacquisition, as the Red Sox brought back veteran left-hander James Paxton via trade with the Los Angeles Dodgers last Friday.
“Big Maple” signed a one-year deal with a player option for a second year before the 2022 Red Sox season, but ended up missing the entire first year due to a combination of injuries. He last started for the Dodgers on July 21, when he pitched five innings of three-run ball against the Red Sox, issuing four walks and striking out seven.
Overall, the southpaw is 8-2 with a 4.43 ERA over 18 starts, with 48 walks and 64 strikeouts across 89.1 innings.
