Throwback Thursday
The name Chappaquiddick is synonymous with “Kennedy scandal.” Fifty-five years ago this month, Mary Jo Kopechne was a passenger in a car driven by Senator Edward Kennedy when he drove off a narrow bridge into Poucha Pond. Kopechne, who was trapped inside the car, died. When this July 25, 1969 photo was taken, Kennedy was being escorted by troopers as he left court in Edgartown, He pled guilty to the charge of leaving the scene of an accident and given a two-month jail sentence, suspended on probation.
