Iraq H1 2024: Toyota and Hilux dominate surging market
The Toyota Hilux is now above the Kia Frontier.
New vehicle sales in Iraq surge 42.1% year-on-year over the First Half of 2024 to 74,249 registrations. Toyota (+76.9%) is now the most popular brand with 28.8% share vs. 23.2% over the same period in 2023. Kia (+37%) is relegated to 2nd place at 27.4% of the market vs. 28.4% a year ago. Hyundai (+73.7%) also improves its share markedly at 14.3% vs. 11.7%. MG sales have peaked it would seem as the Chinese brand drops -13.6% year-on-year to fall to just 7% share vs. 11.5% over H1 2023. It remains #4 however. Suzuki (+79.8%) and GWM (+114.5%) also outpace the market in the remainder of the Top 10 while Nissan reappears at #9.
Model-wise, the Toyota Hilux (+74.7%) topples the Kia Frontier (+31.4%) by a large margin at 11.2% share vs. 9.8% for the Korean. The Hyundai Tucson (+108.5%) is up four spots on H1 2023 to #3, unsettling the Kia Sorento (+55.2%) and Toyota Corolla (+12.4%). The MG 5 (-29.3%) is down four ranks to #8 and the only Top 10 member in negative. The Great Wall Wingle (+148.5%) breaks into the Top 10 at #10.
