The Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD clocks 11 Top 10 finishes in 2023.

In partnership with JATO Dynamics, we can share with you today separate rankings of the Top 10 best-selling vehicles for each U.S. State over the Full Year 2023. This data is exclusive to BSCB, you won’t find it anywhere else. The methodology for this ranking is different from the monthly U.S. data we publish, with pickup variants counted separately – which makes a lot of sense as they are basically different vehicles altogether. This way, the Ford F-Series is split into F-150, F-250 Super Duty, F-350 Super Duty and up, the Chevrolet Silverado into 1500, 2500HD and up, Ram 1500, 2500 and up, etc.

51 of 52 states covered are won by light trucks vs. 48 in 2022 and 50 in 2021. The only state going to cars is Puerto Rico where the Toyota Corolla is #1. This is compared with 4 cars winning a state in 2022 vs. 2 in 2021, 2019 and 2018 but 4 in 2017, 6 in 2016, 8 in 2015 and 12 in 2014. Among the truck wins,  27 go to pickups vs. 28 in 2022 and 30 in 2021, 23 go to crossovers vs. 19 in 2022 and 2021 and 1 goes to a van like it was the case during the past two years.

The Ford F-150 wins 25 states in 2023.

Like in 2021 and 2022, there are no States with no light trucks in their Top 5. One state has only pickups it its Top 5 (North Dakota) vs. 2 in 2021 and 3 in 2019, but no less than 9 states have 4 pickups in their Top 5: Alaska, Arkansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Montana, New Mexico, South Dakota, Utah and Wyoming. 8 states have no pickup in their Top 5 vs. 6 in 2022: California, Connecticut (none in Top 10), District of Columbia (none in Top 10), Massachusetts, New Jersey (none in Top 10), New York, Oklahoma and Rhode Island

4 states only have U.S. have models in Top 5 vs. 6 in 2022: Michigan (All-American Top 10 also), Missouri, North Dakota, and South Dakota. Puerto Rico is the only state with U.S. model in its Top 10, while Rhode Island has no U.S. models in its Top 5 and only one in its Top 10.

The Tesla Model Y wins 5 states in 2023 vs. just one in 2022.

The most state wins goes once again to the Ford F-150 with 25, one less than in 2022. The Toyota RAV4 follows with 14 wins vs. 16 last year. The big improver is the Tesla Model Y going from just one win in 2022 to 5 in 2023. The Chevrolet Silverado 1500 goes from none in 2022 to 2 this year, with the Honda CR-V also clocking up 2. The Jeep Wrangler (Hawaii), Nissan Rogue (Oklahoma), Ram Promaster (New Hampshire) and Toyota Corolla (Puerto Rico) each earn one win. Winners in 2022 but not so lucky in 2023 are the Chevrolet Equinox, Ram 1500, Toyota Camry and Tacoma.

As for Top 5 finishes, this time the Ford F-150 dominates with 41 vs. 39 in 2022, followed by the Toyota RAV4 at 40 vs. 45, the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 at 29 vs. 11, the Honda CR-V at 25 vs. 13 and the Ram 1500 at 20 vs. 30. The Tesla Model Y goes from 5 last year to 15, equal with the Toyota Camry at 15 vs. 17 in 2022.

The Ford F-350 Super Duty ranks #2 in Wyoming

Looking at the heavy duty pickup segment, the Ford F-350 Super Duty is #2 in Wyoming, #4 in Montana and #7 in Idaho, #8 in South Dakota, the Ram 2500 #2 in Utah, the Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD #3 in Iowa, #4 in Alaska, #5 in Missouri and North Dakota, #6 in Montana and Wyoming, #7 in Utah, #9 in Kansas and Kentucky and #10 in Nebraska and Pennsylvania, Ford F-250 Super Duty #7 in Wyoming, #9 in Louisiana and Texas, #10 in New Mexico and North Dakota and the GMC Sierra 2500HD #10 in Arkansas.
